Richard
was born on December 11, 1953 in England. He studied
at Stourbridge School of Art, England (Bachelor of Arts
with Honors : 1979; and Monash University, Melbourne,
Australia (Master of Arts : 1999).
As
a talented and valued glass artist, Richard has been
continuously challenged in creating his artwork's designs
while perfecting the techniques. His hand-blown and
slumped glass designs are the creation of many years
of experience and maturity. |
He
has shared his expertise with some institutes, universities
and colleges in Australia. Richard also managed his own studios
in North Melbourne and Victoria, Australia for twenty years.
Prizewinner of Gas and Fuel Show, MMCC, Melbourne in 1985,
Australia Council Development Award in 1987, only to name
a few of the awards that he has received. His dedication and
continuation of blown glass development techniques have earned
him an outstanding recognition and respect from all over the
world. From Museum of Art and Craft, Hamburg, Germany, to
National Glass Collection, Wangga Wangga, Australia, have
included Richard's outstanding artworks into their exclusive
art collections.
Numerous
international exhibitions in England, Denmark, Japan, Germany,
USA, Korea, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Singapore,
Vietnam and Australia as well as Indonesia, have only confirmed
his name as a master of glass. During his career, Richard
has held 9 solo exhibitions in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney,
Australia, and Bali, Indonesia.
Various
worldwide publications such as The Survey of World Glass,
Artfile; Craft Arts International, Australian Glass, Masters
of Their Crafts, Techniques of Kiln Formed Glass, Craft Arts
International and Neus Glass have honored Richard by publishing
his artworks.
Richard
Morell joined Jenggala Keramik Bali in 2001 to set up our
glass production facility. He is fully involved in training
the staff, creating new designs and also keeping the facility
in top working condition. Utilizing many innovative hand-making
techniques, colors, sandblasting and texture molds, he continues
creating a spectrum of glass designs and products that compliment
Jenggala's ceramic forms or are stand alone masterpieces.
His
third solo exhibition at Jenggala Keramik Art Gallery is a
presentation of glass vessels; images collected from what
lie on the surface and beneath, from what are seen and unseen.
From one's pursue to discover the true meaning of life.
