Edo Pillu & Joko Sulistiono

Edo Pillu was born on June 5, 1969 in Bandung, West Java and graduated from Indonesian Institute of Art (ISI), Yogyakarta in 1997.

Joko Sulistiono who also graduated from Indonesian Institute of Art (ISI), Yogyakarta in 2000, was born on April 10, 1970 in Grobogan, Central Java.

Strong belief in the values and traditions that shape the characters and interests of human beings, both artists have been inspired by the art of the Javanese traditions that they hold close to their hearts. These values and traditions are a steady reminder of where they came from and where they belong. Such appreciation towards their heritage is expressed through their fascinating artworks.

Having joined group exhibitions in Germany, USA, Singapore and some cities in Indonesia, Edo reflected the desire to express himself, his mind and his life on canvases in an attempt to find the true meaning of life.

The more he learns about life, the more he discovers and the hungrier he becomes. Such complexity in daily life events reminds all of us of God's scenario; nothing is as perfect as God's plans. And to keep us wondering and guessing are part of the game. Edo will keep on searching 'til he cannot go any further.

Joko, the winner of The Top Five Philip Morris Indonesian Art Award 2000, fluently combines reality and imagination. He finds the unlimited possibilities to express and create the technical formation, shape and idea through art.

The variety of possibilities present him with the indefinite freedom to explore the mind and taste which he conveys through his 2 or 3 dimension artwork. Even motion and sound inspire Joko to move the brushstrokes on canvases. Art is the possibility itself.

Their collaboration in the exhibition at Jenggala Art Gallery is the proof of a solid commitment between artists and their traditions amidst the constant changes surrounding their lives.
