Agus Budiyanto

AGUS BUDIYANTO

Agus Budiyanto was born on July 25, 1960 in Jakarta. It was the passion for art that drove Agus to learn about painting as he never attended any art institutes in his life. Everything came naturally as he tried the first stroke on paper. Being intrigued and challenged by the watercolor, Agus chose the medium to translate his emotions and interpretations of his surroundings on paper. As a difficult medium where even a slightest mistake is not allowed, watercolor requires not only full concentration but also maturity of the artist. Unlike most artists, who find water color less interesting and challenging, Agus is one of a few artists who is continuously, totally and fully committed to creating big size watercolor paintings of 150 cm x 114 cm on high quality paper.

Inspired by the everlasting beauty of nature and the rich culture of Indonesia, Agus continues to demonstrate his maturity as well as spontaneity in portraying the various objects from beaches, harbors, villages, cities, trees, flowers, animals to humans. Whether it is representing Indonesia in the international world though group exhibitions or holding solo exhibitions, Agus always chooses the theme that is close to his heart; Indonesia, the land of beauty.

During 26 years of his journey in painting, 5 awards of recognition and appreciation from various associations have proved Agus' totality and commitment as one of renowned Indonesian watercolor artists. He has held 8 solo exhibitions in Bandung and Jakarta as well as joined 38 group exhibitions in Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Singapore.

In his first solo exhibition at Jenggala Art Gallery, Agus exhibits his latest series of paintings with rain as the concept. Rain is a blessing from God for the continuity of human lives and all creations on earth. Esthetically, rain has high value and it presents the objects with different meanings, between real and unreal. To his opinion, watercolor is the perfect medium to visualize rain. Agus explained, "I would like to introduce the watercolor paintings to the people and art community in Bali. Hopefully by presenting different techniques and sizes of the paintings, this exhibition would be able to increase people's interest and response of watercolor paintings."

Jenggala Art Gallery is proud to present the watercolor paintings exhibition by Agus Budiyanto entitled "Poetry of Rain".
